Here are some of the questions I get asked the most, and what my answers have been. This way you can get your answers immediately, without having to wait on me. And you never know, you might find answers to a few questions you didn't even know you had yet.

*This is still a work in progress. I'm continuing to add many more questions, and we are still ironing out a few quirks. But we wanted to make this available as soon as possible.

Question:
Don't laugh, but what do you think of "snake oil" for our hair?
Answer:
I do have to say that actual "Snake Oil" for our hair is a new one to me. If it's an actual oil made from snakes, it should be fine, apart from some cruelty concerns for the poor snakes I have (so on those grounds I would not recommend it). But an oil is an oil. Some are slightly better than others (coconut oil has had tests reported in the Journal of Cosmetic Science 52, 169-184) that shows that it penetrates the hair shaft better than mineral oil, but of course, nothing can repair hair).

I did some research on Snake oil, and it looks like the Chinese often used it for arthritis because the body fat of a certain river snake had a bit more EPA than other snakes (here is an article I found). This may help with healing, because skin is alive, and there is some evidence that shows some ingredients can help it, but again, hair is dead, and nothing but good care will help it.

I have a friend who bought a bottle of snake oil, and she gave me the list of ingredients (thank you Farah for checking this out!). So it sounds like (at least for the snake oil she purchased) that it's little more than silicones with a bit of fragrance added to it.
