Question:
How long did it take you to grow your hair?
Answer:
It's taken me about eleven to twelve years (from the last time I used a relaxer) to grow hair that is now down to my hips. I grew out the chemicals for about a year and a half before I did the Big Chop.
Hair grows about 1/2 inch a month or so, which means you can estimate about 6 inches of growth a year. Mine seems to grow about 5 or so inches a year. It's funny, when my hair was short I used to take a yardstick and hold it behind my ear and try to imagine what it would look like to have hair that was 24'' long or more—I couldn't even imagine being able to stretch my hair down to my stomach. And here I am, years later, and my hair is down to my thighs, longer than I ever thought it would get, all because I finally got rid of those chemicals and stopped damaging it.
