Here are some of the questions I get asked the most, and what my answers have been. This way you can get your answers immediately, without having to wait on me. And you never know, you might find answers to a few questions you didn't even know you had yet.

*This is still a work in progress. I'm continuing to add many more questions, and we are still ironing out a few quirks. But we wanted to make this available as soon as possible.

There are several ways to choose the question(s) you'd like answered:

Question:
I've Heard About This Keratin Treatment That's Supposed to Repair My Hair/ Make My Hair Like Asian Hair/ Take Out it's Curls/ Make It Less Frizzy
Answer:
Know that anything that permanently alters your hair texture damages it without question. Many products and the stylists who use them say misleading things about how they condition or heal hair, and how they are gentle. Nothing could be further from the truth. These sorts of treatments usually alter your hair by using intense heat to more or less melt your hair.

These products are also using psuedo-science and misinformation to sell the Keratin treatments. They are implying that because your hair is made of Keratin, if you sear more Keratin onto your hair that somehow it will heal your hair or give you some sort of new hair. This is absolutely not true (you can follow the Keratin link to learn more about this ingredient).

Just so you know, nothing in this entire world can give you hair like Asians have. The type of hair we have is determined by genetics. Anyone who tries to tell you differently is selling you snake oil. All we can do is try to care for our natural hair without damaging it. All this process will do is damage your hair. You may walk out of the salon with that stick straight hair, and it may look wonderful. For a while. But the damage will be done, and your hair will slowly show it more and more. Months later your will notice your hair seems dryer than usual, or shorter than you remember it being, or it can't form curls like it once could (if you look at lovely Brianna's before pictures, you can see how her hair could no longer form curls due to the use of flat irons alone).

After the damage from these "treatments", you will then have to start growing out your hair all over again. Sadly, there will always be someone around the corner promising you the moon to get your money. But they are lying. They just want your money, and they will tell you anything to get it.

I know we all want a quick fix. We see how easy it is for others to just run a comb through their hair, and we wish for the same thing at some time in our lives. And then we read or hear about someone who is offering to "cure" our hair. And that would be so much easier than the long slow process of waiting for our healthy hair to grow long or to grow out, and being gentle. We want something instant. Something magical. But there is no magic solution. Only time and gentleness will grow you that long healthy hair. Certainly not searing flat irons. The people selling these products do not have to tell you the truth (and why would they want to? They'd lose business if they did). And they will not be there when your hair starts breaking off and falling down on your shoulders, either.

For the sake of your hair, I strongly and vehemently suggest you not use anything that will permanently change your natural hair if you are wanting healthy, thicker, longer hair. My first choice would be for you to grow out your natural hair, and find a way to wear your beautiful curls that doesn't destroy them.
